mothers’ shame
(documentary film)

I am looking for women to write an open letter to their mothers, reflecting on how they shaped them as women.

How did your mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother’s experience of womanhood affect your own? How did their trauma, triumphs, shame, fear, and anger reflect on your life? Did it evoke resilience? Do you feel bolder for it, or do you feel burdened? Do you hold onto any resentment?

Intergenerational trauma is the passing down of psychological effects from one generation to the next. Shame is one of them.

Mothers’ Shame is a place to express love and empathy for the women who came before us, whilst not feeling ashamed of the journey it’s taken us to get there.

I want this project to echo voices from all around the world, reflecting its universal theme. The intention is to encourage empathy,  by uniting us and spreading a wider love to relieve future generations.
